Digital travel information and advertising screens in various formats

Digital information displays

On behalf of public transportation company De Lijn, Q-lite is in full swing on a large-scale project to supply and install various LED and LCD information screens. These digital screens in De Lijn’s network provide travellers in Flanders with clear and up-to-date travel information, optimising their travel experience.

In addition to functionality, sustainability is key, including recycled materials and innovative foundation solutions.

Phased rollout of digital travel information screens

The order consists of 5 different types of displays in various formats:
from bus stop displays with LED technology to LCD displays with a summary and double-sided panels with an advertising side.

The robust GOB technology was chosen for the LED screens displaying travel information.

The project is still on going and is proceeding in several phases:

  • In May 2024, the first displays were installed and made operational in Antwerp.
  • Since December 2024, management has been done on 17 installed displays.
  • The expected full completion of about 200 displays is scheduled by the end of 2025.

Glue on board technology

The new LED information displays use GOB or Glue on Board technology. It combines SMD LEDs with a solid coating of transparent resin. This gives the screen a smooth and water-resistant surface. The LEDs are thus extra protected from dirt, moisture and impact, which is indispensable in a busy outdoor urban environment.

Added value for travellers

De Lijn’s new screens enhance the travel experience thanks to:

  • clear travel information – the digital screens are clear and easy to read in all weather conditions. In several places they are also additionally equipped with an information button (audio) for visually impaired people.
  • real-time updates travellers will instantly see current departure times, delays and any diversions. Live updates on bus and tram and metro connections allow travellers to make more informed choices.
  • advertising campaigns – the 86-inch LCD screens display ads from Lijncom, which not only generates additional revenue for De Lijn, but also entertains passers-by and informs them about ongoing activities and promos.

Sustainability and innovation

Sustainability plays a big role in this project. Q-lite and De Lijn deliberately chose eco-friendly materials and production methods to minimise their carbon footprint.

The displays are made with recycled aluminium, contributing to a circular economy and saving resources. In addition, the foundations are made of recycled concrete and geo-polymer concrete, an innovative solution that significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

Life span and maintenance

According to the offer, the screens have an expected lifespan of 15 years. Q-lite remains involved in the maintenance and management of the screens to ensure optimal operation and durability.

Why Q-lite?

With this project, Q-lite proved to be a reliable partner in innovative and sustainable digital signage solutions for public transport. The combination of smooth project follow-up, technological precision, sustainability and efficient implementation makes this cooperation with De Lijn a success story that will remain visible on the Flemish streetscape for years to come.
